agent sbobet Liverpool produced a blistering first-half display to stun Manchester City 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. Pep Guardiola has got so much right this season but it was hard to avoid the feeling that he got it wrong at Anfield, writes Adam Bate.

Manchester City had been warned. Liverpool were already the only team to have beaten them in the Premier League this season; Anfield the only Premier League ground on which they had tasted defeat in any competition. But it took little over half an hour for Jurgen Klopp's men to blow the champions elect away on an electric Champions League evening.

Liverpool were Liverpool. Turned up to eleven. They played with intensity and pressed City all over the pitch. That much was to be expected. What few anticipated was that City would once again prove so completely unable to cope with this pressure as the home side succeeded in inducing error after error from Pep Guardiola's players.

It summed up Liverpool's modus operandi that the first two goals came from tackles. Kyle Walker was robbed by Roberto Firmino allowing Mohamed Salah the chance to score the opening goal. Ilkay Gundogan was unwilling to contest a 50-50 with James Milner soon after and that saw the ball break to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who smashed it into the net. link sbo

City lost composure. Nicolas Otamendi charged up the field and was dispossessed. Aymeric Laporte somehow contrived to show Salah onto his left foot and encouraged him to cross. Sadio Mane duly made it 3-0. There was still plenty of time to come back but instead City failed to summon a shot on target for the first time in almost 18 months under Guardiola.

Klopp has become his bête noir. Guardiola has beaten him only once in his last six attempts with the German having registered more victories against him than any other manager. It is not a coincidence. Styles make fights and with seven goals in his last two games against Guardiola, Klopp has found a way to deliver the knockout blow on the transitions.

City lost possession of the ball on 177 occasions on Wednesday night - more than in any other match this season. In fact, more than in any other game ever under Guardiola, with the exception of one - the Boxing Day 2016 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. This particular clash of styles clearly favours the grand priest of gegenpressing.

The Manchester City manager has been lauded all season and rightly so. His side are still on course to smash the Premier League points record and they have done it by consistently playing football of a quality rarely seen before on these shores. But that only underlines why this was such a desperately disappointing performance - on the pitch and in the dugout.

The decision to play Gundogan ahead of Raheem Sterling was a surprising one. In the absence of Sergio Aguero through injury, the winger has not only scored more goals this season than any player available to Guardiola, but he also came into this game against his former club in fine form having scored in the emphatic victory over Everton at the weekend.

That Guardiola felt the need to omit Sterling for this match on Merseyside was a clue that the psychological blow delivered on that previous visit to Anfield was bigger than any of the projectiles lobbed at the Manchester City team coach before kick-off. It was a backward step that provided little added protection and robbed City of much-needed width in attack. link sbo

MessagePosté le: Dim 22 Avr - 10:22 (2018)    Sujet du message: Gennaro Gattuso takes responsibility as AC Milan lose 1-0 to Répondre en citant

Gennaro Gattuso revealed his “incredible shame” maxbet
after Saturday’s humiliating 1-0 defeat to Benevento at the San Siro saw AC Milan become the first team to fail to beat the tailenders this season. Pietro Iemmello’s 29th minute strike earned the club from outside Naples a first ever away victory in Serie A, delaying their probable demotion after just one season in the top flight. It was a double blow for Gattuso whose first game as Milan coach last December had ended in a 2-2 draw at Benevento when goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli scored an injury-time equaliser. Milan have now gone five games without a win with their Europa League hopes threatened. “I told the lads that I feel an incredible shame. We have written a page that is not very beautiful in the history of Milan,” said an angry Gattuso.

“Several players were embarrassing.”
The 40-year-old former Italy and Milan midfielder ordered everyone back training at Milanello on Sunday.

“I take responsibility,” he insisted.
“When you play against a team like Benevento, who play good football even if they are bottom of the table, you can’t play without determination or soul. “We don’t even need the opponents to do anything extraordinary to beat us. We basically tickle the opposition, we don’t hurt them.” Franck Kessie came closest to an equaliser on the hour mark when he rattled the crossbar, with Patrick Cutrone also heading wide on 74 minutes. Benevento’s top scorer Cheick Diabate came on in place of Iemmello after an hour but was sent off ten minutes before the end for two yellow cards. maxbet

But still Milan could not take advantage of their extra man, becoming the first team to fail to beat Benevento this season. Already out of Champions League contention, sixth-placed Milan’s Europa League berth is now under threat with Atalanta two points behind before playing Torino on Sunday. “We have to apologise to the fans. We are ashamed of this game, but we must not let ourselves be overcome with despair,” said Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli.

‘The joke of Italy’
Benevento club president Oreste Vigorito wept with joy in the stands at the San Siro after a fifth win of the campaign and first away. However, coach Roberto De Zerbi said he regretted that the team were just beginning to show their true worth as they are 12 points from safety with five games to play. “Benevento were the joke of Italy and he (Vigorito) felt the pain of that,” said De Zerbi. “This victory is very emotional, because it was a year of great mental and physical suffering.

“Winning at San Siro might not help us climb the table, but it will remain in the history of Benevento. “It’s a wonderful evening, for all we suffered through this season, and I’ll never forget it. “There are so many reasons why we failed to pick up points earlier, from banal errors to the fact we brought in so many important players in January. “I will always regret not being able to work with this team from the start of the season,” he added. De Zerbi was hired to replace Marco Baroni in late October, but after setting a European record by losing 14 Serie A games in a row, Benevento did not get their first point in Serie A until the draw against Milan on December 3. maxbet

Juventus 4-0 AC Milan: Bianconeri win fourth straight Coppa Italia after second-half blitz

sbo666 Mehdi Benatia scored twice as Juventus won their fourth Coppa Italia in a row with a crushing 4-0 win over AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico. After an even first half, Juventus stunned their opponents with three goals in eight second-half minutes, two of them courtesy of errors from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Benatia scored (56, 64) either side of Douglas Costa's strike (61) before an own goal from Nikola Kalinic (76) completed Gennaro Gattuso's side's misery.

Juventus need just a point from their final two Serie A games of the season to complete a fourth league-and-cup double in as many years under Massimiliano Allegri. There was little to choose between the sides in the first period with Gianluigi Buffon forced into smart saves from Patrick Cutrone and Suso at one end while Mario Mandzukic headed Juventus' best chance tamely at Donnarumma at the other. When the second half began, it was actually Milan who started the brighter, Giacomo Bonaventura and Hakan Calhanoglu both had efforts on target before Bonaventura flashed a low ball across the six-yard box. sbo666

That only seemed to shock Juventus into action and after Paulo Dybala has brought two good stops out of Donnarumma, Benatia found himself unmarked from Miralem Pjanic's corner and headed in the opener. Five minutes later, Costa doubled Juventus' advantage, working the space and hitting a firm left-footed shot from the edge of the box that bounced off Donnarumma's chest and squirmed into the corner. It only got worse for the 19-year-old goalkeeper. Mandzukic got on the end of a corner but as the ball looped up off his shoulder there appeared little danger for Milan. However, Donnarumma dropped it and Benatia was on hand to lash the ball in from close range.

The closest Milan came to scoring came after good work from Kalinic down the left, his cross bounced awkwardly in front of Blaise Matuidi and the Juventus midfielder was relieved to see the ball come back off the post. A desperate second half for the Rossoneri was completed as Kalinic flicked another Pjanic corner past Donnarumma at the near post. Dybala almost added to Donnarumma's ignominy when he spotted the 'keeper off his line but his effort from just inside the Milan half sailed just over the bar. sbo666
